Murray Gillespie introduced Lauren and Emma year 13 Students at Sacred Heart College.

Lauren was sponsored to the NSTF by our club and Emma by The Rotary Club of New Plymouth North.

The NSTF is for high performing year 13 students wishing to pursue a tertiary qualification in Science and Technology.

Its run by District 9930 Rotarians in Auckland.
168 Students from all round New Zealand are accommodated at Auckland university's O'Rourke House.

The aim is to expose participants to the wide range of Science and Technology Careers available  through Speakers from Auckland University, Massey University, AUT , Business and Industry.

Teams of 28 students with 2 supervisors experienced the discipline required to participate in a University environment. From Lectures, practical  laboratory work, visits to Industry and Businesses and social activities such as rock climbing, Sky Tower Jumping, Laser Tag, volleyball and a disco night.

Both girls described it as a lifetime experience highlight, gaining a greater insight into their future career paths and making new friends from around New Zealand, They really appreciated being assisted by Rotary to attend and very grateful for the opportunities that it presented.

Emma prior to attending was looking at a Medical career but the opportunities in the Bio- Medical science area interested her.
She will keep an open mind about her options beyond the first year at University.

Laurens interest was in Environmental Science .
She had ruled out a medical career because she thought she would be too squeamish to cope.
However dissecting a Sheep Heart she found super interesting which surprised her.
She would also will keep an open mind about her career direction.

In thanking Emma and Lauren for their excellent presentation Jan Dempsey congratulated them on their selection and being great ambassadors for our respective clubs. She wished them well for their future careers.
