Message from President Sally

Greetings in Rotary

Well I must admit looking at the calendar we will have a very staggered start to the year again, and not because of Covid.  Up until the end of April we will get in another 5 Rotary meeting nights because of Waitangi, Taranaki Anniversary and Easter weekends.

We have been lucky to have two good nights together so far.  Thanks again to Raewyn and David Lusk for opening their home to us for a beginning of year gathering.  Thanks to those who attended the forum at the beginning of this week.  Jan outlined her hopes and aspirations for her year as President beginning in July.

Thank you to those who brought along spare shopping bags for the Foodbank.  I guess that could be an ongoing request from them as they would not get bags returned.  I was able to deliver approximately 60 bags on Wednesday.  Members contributions were supplemented by residents at Summerset Mountain View.

Please check the bulletin for duties and remember to find someone to take your place if you are not going to attend.

Yours in Rotary

Sally
Guest Speaker: Grant Carter Taranaki Health Foundation

Introduced by : Wally Garrett

Grant has been recently employed as The Donor Relationship Manager for the Taranaki Health Foundation.

The Foundation funds needed/nice to have equipment not funded by the Government.

A recent example was 22 lift chairs for patient recovery.

Indeed our club donated money to The Foundation for the purchase of an endoscopy unit monitor as our first fund raiser from the Golf Tournament 8 years ago.

The new Project Maunga building under construction has a $300M government funded budget which will require an additional $25 to $30M funded by the Foundation to replace existing equipment  (such as CT Scanners) which had been funded mainly by the Foundation in the past because the Government criteria on a per capita basis was insufficient.

This equipment is deemed a priority to attract specialist staff to Taranaki.

Grant indicated that there were many generous corporate sponsors in Taranaki. Various awards are given to donors depending on the amounts donated over 3-4 years

He invites voluntary organisations such as ours to assist in the fundraising.

Des Friedrich thanked Grant and wished him well in the challenge he faces to meet his daunting target in the next 4 years.
