3 Minute Talk:  Stephen Bovett

Totally  off the cuff: Thiis was about some art works that  Tracy's Aunt had given them which in Stephen's  view had no merit, fruit in a bowl.
The painting got moved around the house and finally when Tracy was away Stephen put it in the bottom of a rubbish skip when doing a section tidy up.
Unfortunately Tracy noted the painting's absence when she returned.  It was an original by a well known artist.
Stephen had to confess that it was in the skip and despite a bit of water damage was retrieved and given back to the aunt to survive another day!!

Fines: Simon Northrop fined members for things done or not done in the holiday period.

Trees for Peace and Rememberancee  NP Golf Club

Des Friedrich indicated that unfortunately the planting of trees could not go ahead as there were Heritage Issues on the site.
2 alternate sights are currently being investigated at Inglewood, Rob Maetzig sorting out with the NPDC.

Message from President Sally

Greetings in Rotary

Well I must admit looking at the calendar we will have a very staggered start to the year again, and not because of Covid.  Up until the end of April we will get in another 5 Rotary meeting nights because of Waitangi, Taranaki Anniversary and Easter weekends.

We have been lucky to have two good nights together so far.  Thanks again to Raewyn and David Lusk for opening their home to us for a beginning of the year gathering.  Thanks to those who attended the forum at the beginning of this week.  Jan outlined her hopes and aspirations for her year as President beginning in July.

Thank you to those who brought along spare shopping bags for the Foodbank.  I guess that could be an ongoing request from them as they would not get bags returned.  I was able to deliver approximately 60 bags on Wednesday.  Members contributions were supplemented by residents at Summerset Mountain View.

Please check the bulletin for duties and remember to find someone to take your place if you are not going to attend.

Yours in Rotary

Sally
Club Forum- Jan Dempsey

Jan has been a member since 2008 serving as President in 2014/15

She listed 10 points of concern that may need to be addressed in her view for when she becomes President in July 2022.

1.0 Importance of ongoing management of the Club's 8 trust flats. She praised the work done by Wally Garrett and members for the retention of the Flats and the work done to upgrade them to current Government Standards for Tenancies.

2.0 Difficulty in getting members to do projects

3.0 The need for members preferably younger than our current membership

4.0 Difficulty in allocating jobs to the membership.

5.0 Current contact List of Members unavailable.

N.B The up to date list is in the membership details on the club website and also through the Club Runner App on phones. Anyone uncertain as to how to get access should see Murray Gillespie.

6.0 Fund raising,  continuation of annual Golf Tournament and deciding who the major beneficiary will be for 2022 by March 2022 so that an application can be made for a District Grant prior to the Tournament. Dr Tom Boswell will be talking to the Club on the 28th Feb about a possible network project the provision of a Colonoscopy at The Base Hospital.

7.0 Unfortunately we will be unable to continue with the Youth Exchange programme given the COVID 19 situation- Jan as a mentor to both Tilde and Camilla has kept in close contact with these former exchange students from Sweden and Italy.

8.0 Science and Technology Forum- need to keep supporting this programme through NPBHS

9.0 Supporting Youth Programmes- through a close liaison with NPBHS- particularly supporting the Interact Club

10.0 Maintaining Social activities particularly the first Monday of the month Social night.
