3 minute speaker:  Mike Makein spoke about his heart condition called Barlow's Syndrome- elongated cordae tendonae- leaky Mistral valve.
Fortunately Mike provided some notes so we could understand the complexity of his situation.
The condition was first diagnosed in 1970 and monitored 10 yearly.
In early 2019 he had moderately severe reflux which revealed after an ETT (Exercise tolerance test) that he was at 95% of the expected result.
After I encouraged Mike to play golf in November on two consecutive days he had severe reflux with heart failure!!!! This lead to a full range of tests and a booking for urgent Mitral Valve Replacement. Unfortunately there were delays over Christmas with cancelled bookings. However fortunately Mike was able to have open heart surgery with a Tissue(pig) valve via sternotomy, bypass. and subsequent pacemaker installed because of heart rhythm problems. All done in Hamilton over the difficult COVID 19 outbreak timing. He's slowly recovering and hopefully we'll see him out on the golf course maybe in the Spring when Twilight Golf starts again!!

Presentation of a cheque to Izzy Barker.

Izzy a 15 year old NPGHS student applied for funding assistance to enable her to compete in National Swimming Competitions and help achieve her ultimate goal to represent NZ at The Olympics.
She's been swimming competitively from the age of 7, trains 6 nights/day per week and  and has achieved personal bests at every competition she's been to.
Her specialty is in Breaststroke/Medley 200-400 metre distances.
She's currently preparing for the Secondary Schools national champs in August and a national short course meet in September.
She also does regular gym training as part of improving fitness.

President David presented her with a cheque and on behalf of the Club wished her well for the future and invited her to come back to the club in the not too distant future and report on her progress towards her goal. She was accompanied by her father Paul.
