3 Minute Talk- David Brownson- Part 3
David only recently discovered the reason his Uncle left Lebanon and came to New Zealand. He was the eldest of 12 children.
Turmoil within the country between many factions made it difficult to live.
Massacres of Christian Lebonese were being carried out by Turkish Muslims
At the time he was studying at The University of Lebanon but was at one stage captured but managed to escape.
He obtained 7 bullets (with a revolver) to shoot his way to freedom and 3 gold coins for bribes helped by The Greek Orthodox Church and Mason's.
What a story David.
Guest Speaker: Deborah Jones- House of Science
Introduced by Sally Morch
The House of Science is a 10 year old New Zealand Charity whose aim is to help children at Primary School Level to develop a passion for Science. It was started by an ex Science Teacher.
Science is not a core subject taught at Primary School Level and is a challenge for all Primary teachers because of their lack of training and support subject material.
They have created 40 separate kits for 30 children that provides material for hands on Science experiments and information.
Schools are delivered by volunteers(Sally is a volunteer) with the kit for a fortnight period around Taranaki.
There was only one Taranaki school involved in Term 1, 2022 now there are 30 schools involved.
Our Trust has sponsored one Kit (Whats the Buzz- about bees)
Members were given the kits to do a fun hands on study of bees.
In thanking Deborah for a very interesting talk and demonstrations, Wally Garrett mentioned that more Volunteer drivers are required to deliver the kits
