3 Minute Talk- Jon Pitman

Jon gave a very interesting talk about his sailing career which was obviously extensive and ongoing.

His father was into Fizz boats and unreliable engines.

Jon went to a sail class (Auckland) when he was very young and his father then built a boat for him at the age of 12.

He was drawn to sailing with the magic of being able to get a yacht round a course in light winds particularly.

At High School he got into the very competitive OK Dinghy class and then graduated to the Laser single handed Olympic Class after marriage. Representing NZ in 1979.

5 Years ago he raced in World Masters games finishing runner up to and Australian in his age group.

He is still involved today teaching "learn to sale" classes at The New Plymouth Yacht Club and still competing in the Laser Class proving age is no barrier.

Well done Jon great way to introduce yourself to the Club
