Guest Speaker: Dinnie Moeahu, NPDC Councillor
Introduced by : Gary Brown
A passionate address from Dinnie where he explained that becoming a District Councillor and a desire to serve the community came from a number of challenges and achievements in his life.
One of seven children, he's been married for 22 years to wife Sonya ,proud parents to Christian and Koia.
They are full time carers for Sonyas disabled sister living in Opunake.
His most memorable challenge and one he's most proud of was to raise $150,000 to establish clubrooms for the Little Fighters Club for children with disabilities.
He did this through participating in an Ironman event in 2018, losing 45 kg in the process, raising money through sponsor donations.
He received The Daily News Person of the year award in 2019 the same year he was elected to council.
He chairs the NPDC Accessibility Issues Working Party and absolutely loves the challenge of being a first term councillor.
He's currently doing a Masters Degree on Leadership through Canterbury University.
In his words:
"The pathway to leadership is through Service"
There were numerous questions but the highlight was when President Sally mentioned that our club was struggling to achieve a diversified membership that truly reflected the Community and did he have any suggestions?
His reply was he'd love to join our club and contribute to making our club vibrant and truly reflective of The Community.
This was warmly received by all members.
What a breath of fresh air.
Thanked by Wally Garrett.
