The Guest speaker for the night was David Hill the well known, respected and local author of many books for the younger reader. He also is the author of numerous articles for various publications let alone items for a radio audience.
David based his talk around the three questions that he gets asked the most.
Why do you write?
Where do you get your material from?
How much do you get paid?
David, who has been awarded a MNZM, has been a full time writer for 40 years and found it far less stressful than teaching, his original occupation.
His first published item was in the Napier Boys High School magazine.
He really enjoys the freedom to work for himself at his own pace, and writes to pay his dues to his parents, aunt’s, uncles, family and friends.
David has a great, relaxed, easy way of speaking, and he paints a very good verbal picture with his story telling, about “Uncle Fred” with which he finished.
