3 Minute Talk:
Jan Dempsey spoke about how critical that children are read to regularly, in her view a lost art for many schools/teachers. The ability to go on line has not led to good reading habits. Jan has been passionate about this ever since she started teaching at 19.
She is still relief teaching and will always have books (particularly illustrated short stories) with her that leave children spell bound when they discover the world around them. Jan is a trustee of Life Education Trust and has been for some time.

Message from President Sally
Greetings in Rotary,
This week was our Club Forum. It was great to see so many members attend and we will be able to develop some good ideas from all the suggestions made. In hindsight it would have been good for members to put their names or initials against the comments as some are difficult to decifer. The results of these will be collated and sent to all members following a meeting next week to determine our focus.
Thank you to those present who completed the Police Vetting forms at the meeting. Dennis and I will be meeting next week to collate these and send them off. Please send me a copy of your birth certificate or passport if you have not already done so. Those who were not at the meeting Dennis will be in touch to get these completed.
The Social meeting will be held at India Today next Monday 7th September. Start time 5.30 for dinner at 6pm. It was a concensus of members at the meeeting that we would have social night at a restaurant occasionally as a change and to assist local businesses recover. This will mean that it will be easier on members who will only need to host once during a year or 18 month period. The cost will be $25 per head and we will look at being able to pay this throught the member’s account. I will talk to Des about this. Bring some money just in case. It is also BYO drinks.
Yours in Rotary
