President David welcomed everyone to the first meeting in person post COVID 19 lockdown. He explained that it was not a speaker evening because he felt there was a need to have club discussion on current issues the club was facing.
Birthdays: Owen McCluggage 10th May, Gary Brown 12th June, Tony Brown 15th June , Murray Gillespie 16th June, Harry Duynhoven 22nd June.
Meals: David mentioned that we were to have the winter menu (with soup instead of desert) tonight. However desert was served and the general consensus was that we could rotate between soup and desert as an executive decision each meal night.
Rotarian and Rotary Down Under Magazine (Digital v's Printed Copy):
Des Friedrich indicated that all members agreed to take the digital copy of the Rotarian apart from himself who would take the RDU digital copy and circulate it to all members.
This was the outcome of a study by Murray Gillespie that there was a saving of approximately $400.00/year for the club if most members took the least cost option the Rotarian Digital. He understood that the Fitzroy Club had also agreed to make the same decision.
Website/ Newsletter(Bulletin)
Murray Gillespie spoke and demonstrated with a live connection about the work he'd been doing to use Club Runner for both the Bulletin(now called Ngāmotu News) and the club Website: www.rotaryngamotu.club
He encouraged all members to usie the website as a resource for all club information using a member login: Membership Database (update your profile), Bulletins, Board Meeting minutes, constitution and bylaws, calendar of club events, Golf tournament information, attendance records for meetings, Trust Information, Latest club news, photo's, links to facebook.
To login: Go to member login top right of Website home page. You will come up with a request for your Login Name and Password. If you are doing this for the first time click on the box that says Forgot login name. You'll come up with an option to enter Last name and your email address and then submit. You will be given your Login Name and then be requested to enter a password and confirm it. Once this has been achieved you can go back to the Login and enter your login name and password.
All members are encouraged to submit articles for publication to make the website more relevant for club activities, news, projects etc.
Fines: Conducted by Sally Morch with interesting NZ questions.
Zoom: Discussion around the possibility of substituting one Dinner meeting for a Zoom meeting. The consensus was that we needed at least 2 dinner meetings/month. Zoom could possibly be used for occasional meetings (a speaker from outside New Plymouth could be engaged) on the 3rd Monday of the month and maybe Forum nights.
The Social night first Monday of the month to continue.
Changeover night will be on Monday 13th July.
Life Education Trust: Jan Dempsey is a trustee of the Taranaki Branch and has been approached by Christine Goodin about whether our club would assist with a bookstall fundraiser in about 18 months time. Des Friedrich thought that this had merit but would need someone within the club to champion it.
Charity Golf Tournament Friday 13th November 2020
Murray Gillespie suggested that we should start planning for the tournament that has been booked in for the date indicated with The New Plymouth Golf Club. While some reservations were expressed about support by sponsors being harder to come by this year because of COVID 19 it was decided to proceed as the Club still needed a major fundraiser for the year. Debate about the major beneficiary of the tournament followed. This to be decided by the Golf Committee with suggestions from membership welcomed.
The first meeting to be at Murray's home on Monday 15th June at 7.00pm.
Club Member Subscriptions
Des Friedrich explained that the fixed costs (covering RI dues, District Levy, Magazine, Club Runner, Xero) that members were paying monthly was $25.00/member/month.
Variable costs for incidental club expenses amounted to $5.00/member/month.
In addition members paid a $10.00/ month levy to The Rotary Foundation.
Moved Des Friedrich, seconded Sally Morch: That $40.00/month be debited from members accounts each month to account for these fixed and variable costs.
Carried unanimously.
Wellington Children's Hospital Whanau Room Raffle
Des indicated that he still had 2 books left to sell($50.00/book) if anyone was interested to
let him know.
