         Message from President Sally

  Greetings in Rotary,

A geat turnout for the meeting on Monday with an interesting insight into the world of the Labour candidate for the general election on October 17th.

Those who were not at the meeting Dennis will be in touch to get the Police vetting forms completed.

Our social meeting on October 5th will be at the Auto Lodge.  It will take the format of the old style Bingo night without all the cigarette smoke clouding up the hall. Cost will be $2 per card and all proceeds will go to End Polio Now campaign.  There will be a raffle and maybe an auction for some small items, so bring your wallets.

A gentle reminder that District 9940 conference will be held in the Wairarapa from 19-21st of March 2021.  I am encouraging all members to consider attending.  It would be great to have 100% attendance but I know everyone can’t take this time out.  Early warning so more time to plan it.  Saturday night dinner will be dress in the era of your club’s charter and for us that is the 1920’s.  I am in contact with the South wairarapa club to try to organise home hosting for our members and if there are enough of us we may look at getting a bus.  This would help to keep the costs down.

There have been several people asking when we will get our refunds for the past year.  Some people leave this to roll over and some donate it to the club.  This will all be explained by Des at our AGM in October. in Rotary,

Yours in Rotary

The Guest Speaker: Glen Bennett, N.P. Labour Party Candidate was introduced by Harry Duynhoven.

Glen had his first taste of MMP back in 1996 as a young man in Wellington when he and his friends did the rounds of the various parties on  night, changing the colour of their rosettes as they moved around.
He has been using his skills as a Barista in his current campaign seeking to become the New Plymouth M.P. Whilst doing this he has been learning about the issues within our community.
Glen has a deep seated foundation of community involvement from a young age with his parents being staunch Salvation Army people.
He has been a foster parent to many young folk over the years and has taken some especial pleasure in seeing some of them go on to make a real success of their lives despite their early difficult years
Glen would like to see town and country working a lot closer together especially in the environment as one example.
He had a pivotal moment as an eight year boy, when with his mother they went to an old smelly dump in Onehanga to visit a young woman with a child. They were living in a horrible old workers hut at the back of the dump.
He decided then, that was wrong, and that was not the way people should be living in N.Z.
At the end of his talk he answered several questions and was duly thanked by Des Friedrich on behalf of the Club.
