Message from President Sally

Greetings in Rotary

A very interesting chat with Brian Vickery last Monday night followed by the AGMs for the club and the trust.

A big thanks to so many of you attending and participating in the discussion.

Don’t forget to ring or message Wally if you are not coming to any of our meetings as several members are still not doing this.  Don’t tell another member, your apology must be put in to Wally.  Unfortunately we do need to charge you for the meals if you do not put in an apology as we are charged for these by the Auto Lodge.  If you pay on the night please also make sure you pay for any meals you did not apologise for.

The club finances were deferred until Des can help us with understanding of this document.  The board will clarify some areas at our meeting next week.

Next meeting on 22nd November we will be having a collection for the Foodbank.  They are having a drive through drop off this year as they have had to cancel their annual drive and collection around town. I will drop them off on the designated day.  Please try to bring several items so we can deliver a substantial amount.

Yours in Rotary

Sally

Guest Speaker: Bryan Vickery- on Media Today

Introduced by David Lusk

Bryan is a  former broadcaster/journalist now running his own Media Company. He had 21 years in radio and journalism coming from a teaching background . Recently he was hired by WITT to run a journalism/media course, in fact students had just successfully completed the course today.
He has the utmost respect for community groups like Rotary and new many of the Rotarians present.
He actively promoties community groups through sponsorship from Taranaki Companies.
He closely follows local body politics, videoing the latest council meeting at 1.00pm on Tuesday where a councillor will be facing a code of conduct hearing over alleged racist comments. He's also is a regular Letter to the Editor writer in the Daily News
He answered questions on the lack of investigative journalism, paying to support Stuff articles, lack of Shakespeare drama performed locally (he is a Shakespeare Scholar) and other media related current issues.
A keen thespian he had to leave early for the Dress Rehearsal of The Little Theatre Vicar of Dibley show where in a minor role (his words) he is dumping the Vicar!

Thanked by Murray Gillespie
